Put the Right Thing in the Right Place – World Animal Day
Today, at Maksimir Park, the final, fifth event was held as part of the “Put the Right Thing in the Right Place” project – a series of educational and informational activities organised by the City of Zagreb to raise the awareness of the general public regarding sustainable waste management. Today’s event celebrated the World Animal Day.
As usual, the project was presented by Deputy Mayor, Asst. Prof. Olivera Majić, PhD,
who stated that waste management represents a new paradigm of circular economy in which “waste is not waste, but a useful raw material.”
All of the activities have been designed as a way for the citizens to get informed and educated about the importance of separate waste collection and how this is done, but also with a view of motivating them to become more personally engaged in the process.
Today’s event was simultaneously held at two locations – Utrina and Kvatrić markets. In addition, a costumed play titled “Pa to je čarobno” (“Well, That is Magical”) was held for the last time as part of this project. The play is intended for preschool and school children and its aim is to familiarise them with recycling and waste management as well as the importance of properly separating waste and preventing pollution.
This project is part of the City of Zagreb’s efforts to become a leader when it comes to separate waste collection and, in doing so, to bring Croatia closer to the creation of a comprehensive waste management system similar to the systems used in the EU. This project is worth HRK 4,945,708.54 in total, of which HRK 3,600,000.00 pertains to grants co-financed by the European Union under the Cohesion Fund, Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion for 2014-2020.
Let us remind you that so far, we have held various events to celebrate the Croatian Waters Day, European Car-Free Day, International Day of Clean Mountains, World Maritime Day and World Animal Day, which is celebrated today.
