Waste management is a group of activities, decisions and measures aimed at:
Human health must not be threatened, and procedures and/or methods that could cause damage to the environment must be avoided in waste management. In particular, attention must be paid to avoiding the following:
- Preventing the generation of waste,
- Preparing waste for reuse,
- Recycling,
- Other recovery procedures, such as energy recovery, and
- Waste disposal.

- Risk of sea, water, soil and air contamination,
- Noise pollution,
- Odours,
- Threats to flora and fauna,
- Negative impact on areas of cultural, historical, aesthetic and natural value,
- Explosions and fires.
