Recycling centres
The projects of separate collection of recyclable waste and separation of toxic and hazardous waste are a part of the Comprehensive Waste Management System in the City of Zagreb. Separate collection was introduced as early as 1988 for certain types of waste. Nowadays this project and many similar ones are a regular and well accepted utility service standard in Zagreb. Zagreb City Holding Ltd, Subsidiary Čistoća has a total of aprox. 5,800 recycling bins set up in public areas for separate collection of paper, glass, plastic and metal packaging, textile, and biowaste, as well as ten recycling centres and ten mobile recycling centres that collect thirty different types of household waste.
According to the Regulation on Waste Management and Ordinance on Operation of Recycling Centres, all recycling centres must keep a Register of Received Municipal Waste, and keep the record of users who deposit waste.
It is mandatory to present a personal ID card, and provide information about User Key Number and Property Key Number (this information can be found on Zagreb City Holding's One Utility Bill; User Key Number = Šifra obveznika, Property Key Number = Šifra objekta). Recycling centre employee will input the data necessary for the administration of the Register of Received Municipal Waste in accordance with the data protection regulations.
