Put the Right Thing in the Right Place
Today, on the World Maritime Day, as part of the “Put the Right Thing in the Right Place” project, the fourth out of five events planned was held at three locations in the city – Bundek Park, Trešnjevka Square and Jarun Sports and Recreation Centre. This involved numerous educational and informational activities organised by the City of Zagreb in order to raise the awareness of the general public regarding sustainable waste management.
All of the activities have been designed as a way for the citizens to get informed and educated about the importance of separate waste collection and how this is done, but also with a view of motivating them to become more personally engaged in the process.
Citizens had the opportunity to enjoy various games, such as the wheel of fortune, bubble football and archery, and they were also handed out waste sorting bags. Citizens were educated about environmental protection, while the youngest attendees could enjoy a corner specially dedicated to them, where they had colouring books and games – Ekodrom and Ekoforija – designed to teach players about environmental protection.
“The aim of this project is to encourage citizens to dispose of as much waste as possible in proper waste bins. According to this year’s indicators, there has been an upward trend, meaning that we received less mixed municipal waste, while the volume of separately collected waste has been increasing. The credit for such results goes to our fellow citizens, who actively participate in the entire process of separating and collecting waste,” said Ana Stojić Deban, President of the Management Board of Zagreb Holding.
This project is worth HRK 4,945,708.54 in total, of which HRK 3,600,000.00 pertains to grants co-financed by the European Union under the Cohesion Fund, Operational Program Competitiveness and Cohesion for 2014-2020.
This project is part of the City of Zagreb’s efforts to become a leader when it comes to separate
waste collection and, in doing so, to bring Croatia closer to the creation of a comprehensive waste management system similar to the systems used in the EU.
