Operational Communications Department and Road Patrol Department

Operational Communications Department and Road Patrol Department
19 February 2020

Zagreb Holding Ltd., subsidiary City Waste Disposal is establishing an Operational Communications Department and a Road Patrol Department with a view of creating a contemporary technological platform by integrating operations and communication with service users.

From the Operational Communications Department it will be possible to track vehicles in real time, using internal applications, as they perform their day-to-day operations of waste collection, but it will also be possible to monitor the condition of the bins for separate waste collection in recycling islands (the bins equipped with sensors that send an alert when the bin is full). Thanks to publicly available applications, this department is able to monitor the traffic situation and promptly make decisions about how to optimise the waste collection timetable depending on individual city districts.

Operational Communications Department operates 24 hours a day, giving service information to the Call Centre of Zagreb Holding Ltd., which is available to the citizens via the phone number 072 500 400 (at the rate charged for a local call). Operational Communications Department will cooperate with other similar operation/communication services: Services provided by the City of Zagreb, Zagreb Holding Group, Zagreb County Police Administration, fire department, emergency medical services, and others.

Road Patrol Department will monitor field activities performed in the field: inspection of service users’ actions, situation at the recycling islands (excess waste amassed around the bins and other irregularities) and it will keep regular contact with representatives of city districts and local committees, and coordinate work with them.

“Today, we are presenting a modern system that makes it possible for us at City Waste Disposal to monitor the use of all our resources, from employees, vehicles, collection timetables to fill-level of the bins by using software-based solutions.
As of today, collection routes will be suggested by a computer, allowing us to manage business processes more efficiently and rationally.  Our ability to plan waste collection optimally and our effort invested in improving the quality of our services, as well as a more intense cooperation with representatives of city districts and local committees, together with increased educational efforts aimed at the general public, will certainly be mirrored in a cleaner, better-looking city,” said Jure Leko, Director of the subsidiary City Waste Disposal.

Establishment of the Operational Communications Department and Road Patrol Department were just some of the measures implemented toward improving the subsidiary’s performance and increasing the cost-efficiency of both human and material resources as much as possible, while at the same time increasing the quality of services provided by the subsidiary and recognising the needs and demands of users of our services.
